The recommendation is to set the system hibernate power option to “Never” when the computer is on AC power.

Known Issues

Operating in 802.11n Mode

Intel recommends using security with your wireless network. The Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN adapter can only achieve transfer rates greater than 54 Mbps on 802.11n connections when using AES security, or no security. You should only use no security when setting up or troubleshooting the network.

To enable AES for Personal Security, select WPA-Personal (AES-CCMP) or WPA2-Personal (AES-CCMP) in the Security Settings pull down menu. To enable AES for Enterprise Security, select AES-CCMP in the Data Encryption pull down menu.

Wi-Fi* Protected Setup*

Wi-fi* Protected Setup* is supported only on the 3945ABG Network Connection, the Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN, and Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG_.

Novell Client* for Windows XP/2000

The current version of Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software is compatible with Novell Client* for Windows XP/2000 versions 4.90 SP2 only.

Nortel VPN Client Interoperability

To use Nortel VPN Client you can either set up a user profile with Maintain connection on log off or an administrator profile with Pre-Logon Connect and Persistent Connection enabled in the same profile.

To configure profile for Logoff on Connect:

  1. Log on as a local user or a domain user using cached credentials.
  2. Create a new profile to connect to an access point.
  3. Enable Maintain connection on log off during profile creation, or modify the profile to enable Maintain connection on log off.

To modify a profile and enable Maintain connection on log off:

  1. Use Nortel VPN Client to establish a connection with the Logoff on Connect feature selected.
  2. The Nortel VPN Client automatically logs the user off.
  3. Log on as a domain user and authenticate the connection through a VPN tunnel.

Removing Novell Client

If you install PROSet/Wireless with Single Sign On and Pre-Login Connect, and then later remove Novell Client, the Intel Proset/Wireless profiles will not work correctly. To correct this you need to open the Control Panel, open the Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Installer, and click Repair to repair Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless.

Single Sign On

The Microsoft Windows log on user name and password is set for a Pre-Logon profile using the user name and password from the Novell login screen. Verify that the “Use prelogon feature for wireless networks” is selected on the Novell Client* for Windows XP/2000 login screen.

Single Sign On

The Microsoft Windows log on user name and password is set for a Pre-Logon profile using the user name and password from the Novell login screen. Verify that the “Use prelogon feature for wireless networks” is selected on the Novell Client* for Windows XP/2000 login screen.

Microsoft Data Execution Protection

There is a known incompatibility when Microsoft Data Execution Protection is set to "AlwaysOn" in the boot.ini file. Setting this to "AlwaysOn" will disable major functions of the Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless software.
